ILCA Newstyle Vang base only – Harken

The Harken Fly vang/kicker base unit for ILCA is the updated 2026 version of Harken’s most widely used vang system among top sailors worldwide. Designed to cope with today’s higher vang loads, it delivers increased power with reduced friction thanks to larger-diameter, wider sheaves.

The system can be set up with either a 15:1 or 12:1 purchase, allowing sailors to adjust the amount of control line in the cockpit while maintaining smooth and precise vang adjustment, even in stronger breeze conditions. The base unit is constructed from Harken’s fibre-reinforced Carbo Nylon Composite, providing excellent rigidity, impact resistance and a 21% weight reduction compared to the previous stainless steel version.

All sheaves are Harken Fly, featuring stainless steel bearings running on stainless steel races for long-lasting, low-friction performance. The unit attaches to the ILCA lower mast using a pin and ring or a quick-release pin and is fully compliant with ILCA Class rules.
